Electric Pulp named Best Web Developer, etc.

Electric Pulp was recently voted the Best Web Developer in a survey performed by the Sioux Falls Business Journal. We’ve found similar results in the past when polling ourselves, but this response actually came from outside examination making it a slightly more convincing (to our mothers).

The survey also names EP Partner, Aaron Mentele as the Best Up-And-Coming Business Leader under the age of 40. We knew Aaron was under 40, but the rest was no small shock - we can only assume someone was paid off.

All kidding aside, we were flattered by the nods. Hometown recognition is always fun.

So we thought we’d share the Urban Dictionary Word of the Day. It certainly passes our Awesomeness Test.

1) An act of what appears to be generosity- such as lending an acquaintance a CD or movie, etc., or allowing them to choose what to do for fun- that is really more of a method of evaluating whether or not they’re up to your cool standards.

2) An inner struggle that involves the choice between what you believe is cool and what society tells you is cool; if you allow your sense of coolness to triumph over popular opinion, you have passed the awesomeness test.

Examples of usage that you might find helpful:

1) When she let him pick which club to go to, he thought that she must really be into him, but in reality she was just giving him an awesomeness test.

2) When, against her interests, she went with her friends to see a Fallout Boy concert instead of staying home and watching Quentin Tarantino movies and drinking Coke and rum, she knew she had failed another awesomeness test and was too dejected to even find the fact that the lead singer looks like a monkey humorous.

Just another tip from your friends at Electric Pulp to help you be more awesome (or at least talk more awesome).

Aaron's Head. “He was probably the best saxophone player I’ve ever heard.”
Mitch's Head. “Whoa, better than Kenny G?”

First, a little back story: Beggar is an up-and-coming band on the Christian music scene. Ok. Onward.

Site ScreenshotBeggarmusic.com is the latest whizbang Flash site built by the Pulp Squad, and we like it. Playing off the ‘beggar’ theme, we built a site that has everything you need to take your fandom to the next level. As a new fan, you may also be interested to know that the Beggar logo and press kit was also developed by Electric Pulp.

We don’t have much more to say, because the site speaks for itself. Get your Flash 8 plugin warmed up and check it out.

Oh, one more thing. Did we mention the Beggar.Blog?

Every so often, we run across something that might help you be more awesome. We’re going to point to one now, if that’s ok with you.

Blinklist
Blink list is a social bookmarking site that let’s you keep all your web bookmarks in one place, while helping you discover sites similar to the ones you have listed. For those of you social bookmarkers out there, it’s a lot like Del.icio.us, but not ugly, and not owned by Yahoo. Props to the fine people over at Del.icio.us, but we consider those to be good things.

Check it out.

The Pulpsters grew up in South Dakota. We played ball in the Corn Palace. We went on fieldtrips to Mt. Rushmore (that’s the big rock cluster with uncanny resemblances to past Presidents). We even defended our fine state when our friends/clients misassociated us with the movie Fargo. And, now, we’ve built our fine state a glorious site to help promote filming in SD.

Site ScreenshotWhat do you get by checking out the site you ask? Well, friends, you get to experience things like a comprehensive crew and service listing database aimed at connecting actors, crews, directors, photographers, producers, stunt coordinators, et cetera. You also get to see some gorgeous photography displayed through the magic of Flash. And then, you get to see a veritable “lot” of filming locations. Finally, you get to see sunset tables. That’s right, if you ever wondered when magic hour is in Mobridge South Dakota, here’s your chance to find out.

Okay, enough with the build-up, here’s the link: FilmSD.com.

While we don’t have any B-list comedians or Jamie Lynn Spears to make colorful comments on each topic, we do have bandwidth and a partially captive audience, so let’s get started, shall we?

Girls, girls, girls.
2005 was the first year we had a pregnant person on staff. See, Electric Pulp had long been overrun by 6′2″, brown-haired guys. Our office is painted in man colors, we talk about German cars and American motorcycles, we play cards and pick-up volleyball games…guy’s stuff, you get it. Enter 2005…two more non 6′2″, non-guy (but possibly German) recruits join the team and begin to tip the scale. Now we have things like birthday cakes and thank you cards. It’s a brave new Pulp.

New office.
Nope. 2006.

Web development.
Let the record show that ‘05 Electric Pulp kicked ‘04 Electric Pulp’s butt. While our press releases found a fate similar to PulpMail, our infatuation with the Internet has held strong. We met new clients/friends, launched progressive new technologies and introduced the world to a lot of really nice websites.

Wellness.
Marching alongside our friends at WELCOA, the Pulp dropped a great white shark into the personal health fish bowl. Wellstream Online is aggressively changing the face of the Personal Health Assessment industry and loudly proclaiming “nah, nah, nah”.

New technologies.
2005 was the year EP pioneered some new technologies. 2006 is the year we plan to talk about them though. Hold tight.

Babies.
One, that we know of.

Philanthropy.
We’re all heart at the Pulp…big sweeties. Those of you who see us in action might beg to differ, but we did produce some pretty exciting “good cause” projects in ‘05. It’s our way of making up for a few years of adolescent indiscretion. Similarly, writing this is our way of proving to our mothers that we’re atoning.

That’s it.
What can we say? This was meant for pulpMail - we have to stop somewhere.
